Story
All donations will be managed and administered by the UCL Student Union: 86.5% will go to Gift-of-Life charity and 13.5% would go towards subsidising the expenses of our participation.
Our society is participating in 20 km Tough Mudder, mud and obstacle marathon, to fundraise for the ‘Gift of Life' charity and help saving lives of children and young adults whose families cannot afford treatment of cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
Why have we chosen this cause?
In Europe and the US, up to 90% of children diagnosed with cancer survive. In Russia fewer than 70% do. Because the only difference is money, we decided to help spread the awareness, fundraise for their chance of survival and make a change in the fight for life of these children.
How does my donation help?
Donations made will be forwarded to Gift-of-Life, primarily to purchase vital medicine used in the treatment of leukaemia, the most common type of cancer in children, and to fund searches for potential bone marrow donors.
For example:
£350 a month will pay for an operation in one year,
£250 a month buys 1 pack of Erwinase in 12 months (chemotherapy medication)
£50 a month buys 1 vial (1/5 pack) of Erwinase in 12 months (chemotherapy medication)
What is Tough Mudder?
Tough Mudder is a real test of mental strength, determination and, most importantly, teamwork. 20 km muddy track contains obstacles based on common human fears: fire, water, electricity, heights, tight spaces etc. You're there to test yourself and push yourself as hard as you can.
What Andrew Critchlow, a former Army soldier, says about Tough Mudder:
Tough Mudder was three hours of pain from beginning to end and easily one of the hardest events I have ever attempted. To run the 12-mile course built around hilly terrain would be enough of a challenge on its own, but throw in treacherous obstacles designed by ex-Special Forces and this is the kind of test that would have the US Marines thinking twice before entering.
It would mean the world to us if you could donate to our cause. If you have any enquires, please feel free to contact Dmitrii Vastianov, project coordinator, at dmitryvastyanov@gmail.com
