Story
25th April
6 days to go ... aghhhhhh. Bring it on!!
14th April
17 days to go....
Lots of money raised at yesterday's cake sale - not overly good for the waist line but hey!!! I'm sure it will be run off.
7th April
So only 24 days to go...
The excitement is overwhelming. Relay teams are training hard as ever, even after some bouts of sickness and injuries.
This weekend sees Linda and Karen running their last long run (20 miles) and I can reassure you they are looking forward to getting it
over and done with. After this, tapering commences until the big day. Both girls are still cross training with HiiT, Belfast Bootcamping and yoya!!
Everyone is looking forward to Wednesday’s cake sale. Some of the delights being bakes are Nigella's salted crunchie nut bars; Scones
- both cherry and plain; lemon drizzle squares; mars rice crispy buns; aero squares; shortbread; brownies; Malteaser cheesecake; Malteaser buns; 15s; top hats and lots of cakes and tray-bakes. Yum yum yum....
Spectacular prizes are up for grabs if you guess the correct finishing time for the 2 relay teams and Linda & Karen. Surprisingly, the game is called ‘Guess the finish time.’ The prizes are something else!!!

The big day is getting close. Lots of cross training and running going on
especially with this lovely weather and lighter evenings. Keep up the good work.
Linda & Karen
Both girls ran the Larne ½ marathon on Saturday and enjoyed
soaking up the atmosphere and coast line scenery. Steady pace was held with no niggles or injuries. Good times.
Only 2 more long runs left before tapering. This week sees a 17 miler – fingers crossed it will stay dry for their longest run to date.
Wishing you both the very best.

So here’s the latest with our relay teams and marathon runners.
Its all getting very serious now – with only 2 months to go, training has spiked with our runners. Training plans are being followed and miles are ramping up. Again speed work is a focus along with cross training.
Park runs are especially keeping one lady on her toes – no way is the 30 minute pacer passing her by!
Some new trainers have been purchased but not broken in yet – better get to it Liz – only 60 days left!
Hair line ankle fractures are no bother - nothing will stop this boy from making an appearance – right Jody?!
Keep up the good work teams!
Linda & Karen
After being ill for over a week, Linda is back on track with her longest run completed at the weekend at an impressive pace. Rock on Linda!!
Linda kindly passed her illness onto Karen who was out of action for a time but is back on the saddle now.
Both girls set to run 15 miles each this weekend – good luck...

So here’s the latest with our relay teams and marathon runners.
Relay Teams
Relay teams have been hard at work since the start of the year. I’m sure they have run/walked hundreds of miles.
This month it seems like the teams are focusing on interval training and speed work - gonna see sub 3hr here folks?!
There has been a mixture of cross training going on like boxercise, football, body combat, spin classes etc.
Some new trainers have been acquired (as new trainers makes you run faster – right Lesley?) and there’s a rumour that Jody is gonna get himself some new socks for the big day – radical!!
Keep up the good work teams. Only 74 days to go...
Linda & Karen
Both sticking to their running plan and have covered 307km/190 mile in the past 6 weeks. Not bad going girls!
No major injuries reported – just a few niggles which I’m sure we’ll all hear about if they get any worse. The foam rollers and massage balls are out with force – these 2 mean business.
Cross training 2/3 times per week - includes HiTT classes, bootcamping and the good old yoga.
Over the next 2 weeks the girls are to run some pretty long distances. It will be the furthest either of them have ever run. Good luck you two!
3rd Feb 2016
Here we go again – the Utility Regulator is back on the streets of Belfast on the 2nd May for the 35th Belfast Deep River rock Marathon.
This year we have 2 strong relay teams and 2 brave (border line crazy) ladies who are going to attempt their first full 26.2 miles.
Our 2 relay teams are as follows:
Team 1 – UR FABULOUS
Lesley Robinson (team captain)
Roisin McLaughlin
Susan Lavery
Liz Wilkin
Adele Boyle
Team 2 – UR AWESOME
Barbara Cantley (team captain)
Albert Shaw
Jody O’Boyle
Tanya Hedley
Sean Lyons
Reserve – Sarah Brady
The teams have started their training and will be updating this page with their progress and miles covered as a group. There are some super fit people on these teams, so expect high numbers of miles logged – right teams?!
Our 2 marathon runners are Linda Beirne(Miscampbell) and Karen McConnell (Cavlan) - why 2 surnames I hear you ask – well although they have both been married for years, they still sometimes use their maiden names. However, they both get confused about what surname they apply/book stuff under and always have to double check – hence why we have put both their surnames in. Good times.
The 2 girls are following a marathon training plan and are sticking to this rigidly. There are long runs ahead girls but we’ve every confidence in you! Don’t forget, it’s only 42km!
This year, the charity we are supporting is the Cancer Fund for Children. Cancer is an awful disease whether it affects an adult or a child. Sadly, some colleagues know about this first hand and that’s why we’d like to raise as much as possible for this cancer charity.
Cancer Fund for Children is a locally based charity which supports children /young people and their family in their time of need. We want to raise as much money as possible so that this service can continue and expand. So if you can afford to sponsor us, any support will be greatly welcome.
Thank you
UR Marathon Runners
UR kind, generous and supportive
