Story
In March this year I attended the annual Ruddi's Retreat Charity Ball.
For some reason (after many drinks) I though it would be a good idea to bid on a bungee jump that was being auctioned.
Upon winning that bungee jump my lovely husband (did you notice I refrained from swearing there) decided to announce to the whole room of guests that I would be doing this jump to raise money for Ruddi's.
At the time this all seemed fun but now reality is kicking in and to be honest, I am absolutely petrified. The only thing that's making me stay true to my word is the wonderful little boy that is Ruddi himself (and the fact that if my cord snaps, I'll land in water and not on concrete).
Ruddi developed a rare form of cancer at 6 1/2 months old. Following a year of intensive treatment including a three month stint in an American hospital, Ruddi finally went into remission.
Although the tumour and all signs of cancer have gone he is not left unscathed, due to the effects of the Chemotherapy he now has Rickets. His Kidneys were damaged and now don't function correctly which has affected his bone growth. He doesn't walk as strongly as most children, but he is getting there with the help of his daily medication.
He has a Gastrostomy tube fitted due to the amount of medicines he is administered daily and he also has a Urostomy bag to collect his urine. In years to come as the little man grows he will have more operations one of which will be to build a new Bladder from his Bowel tissue.
Ruddi has now progressed to 6 monthly tests to ensure the Cancer has not returned. Every test brings anxiety and worry to Ruddi's family. Ruddi is a truly inspirational, brave boy and he continues to fight on.
