Story
Our beautiful Jessie was born on 15th December 2013 at 20:21pm at Darent Valley Hospital. She was 16 weeks premature and weighed a tiny 1lb 8oz. Her early arrival was completely unexpected, and something that we will never know the reason for. Only 1% of babies are born before 28 weeks, and unfortunately Jessie was one of them. She was transferred that evening to Medway Hospital " The Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Unit" where she was cared for by all the magnificent Consutants, Doctors & Nurses. She was so strong and put up such a fight impressing us all, we were so delighted when Jessie managed to be weened of the Ventilator and was tolerating her feeds. Jessie then unfortunately gained staphylococcal meningitis, and it was just all too much for her tiny body to fight. On the 24th January 2014 at 11:21am Jessie sadly passed away in her Daddy's arms, It was the worst day of our life's and one we will never forget.
Today we want to raise money for The Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust in Memory of Jessie to keep her Memory alive.
The Oliver Fisher neonatal unit started life as just two incubators in the corner of a ward of the former All Saints’ Hospital, Chatham, in 1983. It moved to its current home at Medway Maritime when All Saints’ closed in 1999.
The unit now cares for around 1,000 premature and sick babies a year. It has 36 cots spread over three nurseries – intensive care for the most seriously ill babies, high-dependency care for babies who need complex care, and special care for well babies who are catching up on growth and development after a premature birth.
