Story
I'm having a month off alcohol and thought I'd combine it with trying to raise some money for Nia, a brilliant charity supporting women, children and young people who have experienced male violence. One in four women experience domestic violence in their lifetime and 47% of murdered women die at the hands of a partner or ex-partner. We shouldn't live in a world where women need protecting from men (and Nia also work to change the attitudes that fuel male violence) but right now we do.
Obviously I have all sorts of worries about this particular request for sponsorship. What if people think it's a total swizz since not drinking alcohol is easy (babies and toddlers manage it)? Conversely, if not drinking alcohol is hard, what does that say about me? If I set a high fundraising goal does it look cheeky? If I set a low goal am I suggesting the charity isn't all that important? What if no one donates any money and I look a prat? Is it a good idea to go cold turkey just when your baby is at the right size and crawling capacity to be mistaken for the baby off Trainspotting?.... *goes on like this for a whole month, with no Sainsbury's Soave to ease the tension*
Anyhow, don't mind me while I witter on - but please donate if you can as it is such an important charity!
Thank you for visiting my page *considers making a weak joke based on the word "cheers", thinks better of it, but not so much as not to mention it*
