Story
We have decided that instead of receiving gifts for the big 40, if possible, we would like you to donate to the wonderful charity - NRAS (National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society).
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic and disabling auto-immune disease, affecting 580,000 people in England. It is painful, can cause severe disability and ultimately affects a person’s ability to carry out everyday tasks.
For the last 9 years, my mum has been suffering badly from this chronic, progressive and disabling auto-immune disease. Having Rheumatoid Arthritis has been a challenge for my mum and a hard diagnosis to come to terms with. The pain and fatigue has been debilitating and has dramatically changed how she can live her life. The erratic nature of the illness, also makes it difficult for people to understand the seriousness of her situation. She may put on a good smile, but underneath is someone that is desperate to experience normal life without pain. The RA affects many of her joints and she has had to endure a number of injections on a two weekly basis, that have lead to numerous side affects over the last so many years.
I have found it so difficult over these 9 years to see my mum in so much pain, nearly all the time. I would do anything to have her pain free. So please, if you can donate - every little bit helps.
The NRAS's vision is for everyone with RA to be able to live the life they want to, through high quality care and treatment, services suited to individual needs, and effective ways of support. I want my mum to be part of this.
RA is a lot more common than leukaemia and multiple sclerosis. However, because RA and its effects are not well publicised, awareness of the severity of the condition tends to be restricted to those who are directly affected or their carers and relatives. This may be a charity unknown to you, but it would mean an awful lot to us if you could dig deep and donate a little.
Thanks
Wendy and Mark
