Story

We are a group of gowfers who are all members of Loudoun Gowf Club, we set up a whatsapp page so us guys could talk about all things gowf and general guys stuff like football and all other rubbish.

Through our chats it became very clear that YORKHILL CHILDRENS HOSPITAL was very close to a few of the guys hearts.

It is every parents nightmare that their child could be so ill that they need the specialist care and attention that only certain places can provide, in some of the boys case this special place was YORKHILL CHILDRENS HOSPITAL.

The respect and passion these lads show for YORKHILL and what the hospital has done for not only their kids but for all the families and kids that the hospital helps is truely amazing.

It was after seeing how much it meant to our freinds that the rest of the guys got excited and decides to try and fundraise as much as we could for such a great place.

The Gowfers
Scott Gilchrist, Calum Shaw, Ross Samson, Martin Spence, Frank Milloy, Chris Bone, Steven McEwan, Graeme Gebbie, Hugh Kennaugh, Chris Verner, Elliot Spence, Paul McIvor, Tommy McInally,John Craig, James Anderson, Andy Gilchrist, Kevin Wallace, Craig Muldoon, Luke Murdoch, Andy Douglas,John Houston and Craig Moffat.

We set out to raise some of our funds by putting ourselves through some considerable pain by taking part in TOUGHMUDDER (12 mile mud run, up,over and under obsticles, mud n water) and other mud runs and cycles.

With all the group at some point claiming to be a gowfer then it seemed clear that we should try to raise most of our funds through the beautiful game so we organised a Ryder cup day, raffles+auctions and a Gowfathon and a challenge match.

SO HERE IS THE YEAR FOR YORKHILL (so far) !!!!!!!

So far along our journey we have had an amazing response from freinds and family as well as others, many people have helped along way and at this point the gowfers would just like to make a notable heart felt thank you to you all!!

So the fundraising events started off with Kevin Wallace & Martin Spence the girls from QTS as well Steven King, Gillian Craig and Amanda Gilchrist needing a huge thank you for taking part in the mud run at Crauferland, Fenwick. Not only did they complete the gruelling mud run but they also raised a huge amount of cash for the charity.

The Gowfers then took on Caprington Golf Club in a wonderful day with a Ryder Cup formatted match.
The hospitality, support and overwhelming friendship that was shown both on and off the course by the Loudoun and Caprington membership was second to none and a total funds raised on the day we unbelievable. The Gowfers would like to thank both clubs for their continued support and encouragement.

Gillian Craig and Emma Paterson then organised a Sally Buxton psychic night in the Standalane Tarvern in Galston.
The numbers where great and everyone had a really great night once again raising awareness and funds for the Gowfers charity.

Following that with the charity very close to Mhari Alexander's heart she arranged a girls party night in the Hurlford Bowling club, with party
games,DJ,cocktails, food and some eye candy for the ladies with butlers in the buff.
All the girls had a fantastic night and the Gowfers are truly grateful of all the hard work Mhari put in and the funds she added to the charity.

Then we have the amazing Helen Samson who after training very very hard raised a vast amount of money by running the Paris marathon. WELL DONE HELEN WHAT AN
ACHEIVEMENT!

Not content with herself Helen along with Colin Watt, Steven King, Derek Bates, Diane McGill and Elio Bertochini signed up to taking on the scary challenge of TOUGH MUDDER on sat 14th june along with a group of The Gowfers!!
This was quite the task as we all seem to like a beer or two, but after some hard training and an amazing team spirit we all powered through and raised a great amount for Yorkhill.

Six days after the TOUGHMUDDER experience was a surprisingly even tougher challenge in the Gowfathon where 12 of us Gowfers played 108 holes (6 rounds) over Loudoun Gowf Club in one day,we started at sun rise (4.07am) and finish at
sun set (11.37pm) with sponsorship for each hole and each birdie made.
It was a truly gruelling challenge and we are extremely thankful to the hole sponsors Loudoun Gowf club and the people who gave us courtesy of the course when they knew that Yorkhill were the benefactors.

Loudoun Gowf club would help out again when it hosted a ladies Fashion evening organised by Linzi Bone and Liz Keohone, again with food and drink provided everyone had a great evening and the funds raised where amazing. Thanks to both ladies for all your their hard work.

3 Gowfers in John Craig, Martin Spence and Graeme Gebbie took on an Arran cycle by cycling around the beautiful isle, totalling 54miles and only a few weeks later Allison Milloy would take on the tough cycle of her own from Glasgow to Edinburgh with both these fundraiser again helping greatly to the funds for Yorkhill.

During the summer two close friends of the Gowfers in Stevie Hampshire and Stephen Gregg took on the huge challenge of the West Highland Way, these very kind hearted men split there fundraising efforts between the amazing Rachel McColl Fund and the Gowfers charity. The Gowfers are so grateful for your kindness.

Now on to the end of charity year GOWFERS YORKHILL Ball !!!

Which will take place on

28th February 2015
The Park Hotel, Kilmarnock.
With the amazing band KEEPER LIT playing and a three course meal.
The biggest thanks must go to the scary amount of kindness and generosity that has been shown in the way of donations and prizes for the raffle, auction.
We are blown away, thank you to everyone concerned.

All these events have been fully supported by the wives and partners (The Dragons) of the Gowfers and we cant thank you ladies enough for putting up with us and working as hard as you have to help the fundraising.

Once again thank you to all the friends and family for your generosity, continued
support and everything this past year.

I hope everyone can grasp how much YORKHILL now means to all our group.....THE
GOWFERS!!⛳️

THANK YOU ALL SO SO MUCH, IT REALLY DOES MEAN ALOT XXXX
