Story

New Start Highland is a dynamic organisation which transforms Highland lives.  We create opportunities for people to make positive changes to their lives and improve their quality of life.

Over the year we have taken many donations of used cookers and other white goods generously given by the Highland community to put back into use for families who need them.  At this point in the year when home renovations slow down, so do the donations of cookers, which means we are not able to meet the needs as quickly, thus building up a waiting list for cookers.  This coincides with a time when a number of people have been affected by rising living costs and welfare reform.

New Start Highland is launching our “White Good Appeal”, raising funds to enable us to buy new goods to ensure as many families as possible have cookers this Christmas so they can have a warm, home cooked meal.

Without a cooker, families will be relying on microwave ready meals and take-away meals.  We know that fresh, home-cooked meals are healthier options and therefore by providing cookers to families they will enabled to cook their children more nutritious food.

We are asking the Highland public to contribute to The White Good Appeal this Christmas time so we can help to alleviate poverty for as many families as we can, helping them obtain a cooker, a washing machine, a refridgerator or other white good.

We are still taking donations of physical white goods!  If you have an appliance that is in good working order, please phone 01463 715615 to arrange for a free collection!
