UPDATE: TOTAL SUCCESS
Yes, I made it. In fact, the waddle went so well, I did it several times over the day. I answer to those who asked, the tea was builders': one needs maximum firepower for these tasks...
THANK YOU SO MUCH to all the incredibly kind and generous donors. Hugely appreciated. We have raised enough for more than 4 gers, so 4+ families will have proper shelter this year - and for many more to come.
THANK you again. I promise I won't pull a similar stunt for a number of years.

At a groundbreaking event on Friday 31 October, I am going to make a cup of tea and waddle across the yard to the office to check my Just Giving account, in the hope that, if I manage to complete this feat, for which I'm in demanding training, we will have raised vital money for people who desperately need help: homeless families in Mongolia, who face -40 winter temperatures without adequate shelter. Unthinkable.
See information and photos on Christina Noble Childrens' Foundation's Give a Ger campaign at https://www.cncf.org/give-a-ger-fund.html.
I visited their set-up in Mongolia in 1999, and have been actively involved with them ever since, so can vouch that they are a truly marvellous charity, and exceptionally focused and leanly run. Their money is truly well used.
Gers (also known as yurts) are traditional round felt tents which can fit one or more families. They cost US$3k (around £1,850) each and last for years - fantastically cheap housing, and culturally appropriate to boot!
Their needs are pretty self-explanatory. I wondered if you might feel inclined to put a bit into a pot with me toward giving a ger (actually, two if I get lucky with the fundraising), ie with luck raising £3.7k upward. I am putting in a "seed dollop", and all contributions, however small, will be greatly appreciated!
