Story
The Worcestershire NHS Acute Trust is the 4th biggest colorectal cancer unit in the country treating a very large volume of patients a year.
many of these patients require ongoing support through this journey with physical and psychological issues that may arise from a bowel cancer diagnosis.
in particular the group focus is on well being and survivor ship during and following bowel cancer treatment/surgery. it is an ideal opportunity to talk about experiences in a friendly atmosphere, meet people who have been through something similar and share thoughts and concerns around coping and bowel cancer. This has been a gap in our service up until now.
We were given a Macmillan start up grant to start the group and it has been registered as a charitable fund. The response and feedback from the first two meetings has been overwhelming and successful. It is clear the need is great and raising money to keep it going is a necessity. The money we raise will go towards future meetings, events, resources, transport, equipment for patients, new information booklets, training and development into the support we give our patients throughout their pathway. All of this will be invaluable to patients recovery following certain surgery and treatments.
The whole multidisciplinary team are supporting by running the Worcester City 10k on Sunday 18th we hope this will help raise money and local awareness of bowel cancer. There will be over 40 of us running sporting the support group logo and we have a table in the runners village filled with info and post run cakes!!
Thanks so much for your support from all of us
