Story
Bitterly cold, hungry and vulnerable: For many of the people living on our streets, Christmas is the least wonderful time of the year.
Our friendly teams work year-round helping rough sleepers in Brighton to find homes and access other critical services.
Like many of the people we work with, James had struggled with mental health issues for most of his life. He was a talented artist, studying art at Cambridge, but living on his own was a daily struggle due to his untreated mental health problems. After James’ adopted father died, his foster mother sold the flat he was living in, leaving him homeless.
From meeting James for the first time, we’ve slowly established trust with him. His social phobia makes it hard for him to engage with others, but gradually he’s let the team in and the change in his confidence and self-worth is incredible:
“The Brighton Street Support Team have given me five star service in a one star situation. They have given me the confidence to socialise, and made the sun shine in my life again”.
We’re asking generous Brighton residents to find it in their hearts to help someone like James this Christmas. Rough sleeping in Brighton and Hove has increased by 60% since 2010: please donate so we can keep being there for everyone who needs us.
Give a gift they’ll never forget and donate now.
Thank you, and have a wonderful Christmas, from all of us at CRI's Rough Sleepers Street Services Relocation Team in Brighton.
