Story

In June 2016 I will be taking part in the Road2Recovery Melton Half Marathon.

In preparation I am also taking part in the Beast Run at the end of February - a full-on 5 mile muddy assault course.

Running the half marathon is a personal goal of mine, but also an opportunity to raise money for two great causes: Young Minds and Border Terrier Welfare.

In order to support both charities I have had to create two pages. If you wish to sponsor me, please choose which charity you'd like to support. I'd love to keep the totals as equal as possible!

Border Terrier Welfare (www.borderterrierwelfare.co.uk) - An animal charity who rescue and rehome dogs across the country. I am a huge animal lover and I was keen to donate some of money to a small charity who will really value whatever amount I can raise. There are so many worthy groups I could have chosen, but ultimately, innocent homeless animals will be helped by the donations and that's what matters. I have grown up with Border Terriers most of my life and I will be running the half marathon in memory of my teddy bear Timmy. 🐻

Running a half marathon is something that I've been secretly working towards for a while now, and by the time I finally found the courage to sign up in February, my personal best was about 5 miles. With that in mind, I'm not taking this challenge lightly; completing the half marathon will be no easy task for me, so I will be training hard for the next few months and have set myself a strict training plan (I need to improve my pb by about 1 mile per week!)

About the charity

Started in November 1981 with two strays in Southampton, we now cover the UK, receiving some 250 referrals annually, with dedicated volunteers and no paid staff. A committee of 12 is elected annually at an October AGM. 10 of these are charity trustees, who meet 4 times a year to review progress and determine strategy. BTW receive invaluable support and assistance from 7 regional breed clubs, and from the more informal btposse, and borderfest groups, from whom fund raising challenges have emanated.
