Story
Hi all!
As you all know, we're getting married in August!!
You probably also know that at the end of 2008, Amy spent time teaching in a rural part of Northern Kenya, in West Pokot, called Marich Pass Field Studies Centre.
Instead of wedding gifts, we'd like donations to the people of Marich.
The centre has made a great difference to the people in the area, who are generally ignored in government budgets etc, providing:
- A nursery and school (that's where I worked!) giving education at a price local families can afford.
- A centre for local study and tourism and a chance to experience rural Pokot life!
- Jobs for local people as guides, teachers, cleaners etc.
- Medical care
Primarily, we would like to donate some money towards the school, paying teachers' wages and training, and paying school fees for some village children. School fees and uniform for one child for a year costs around £15, or around £3 a term's teaching.
The centre has been building a clinic for several years now, but have not had enough funds to finish it. Without this the people of Pokot have several hours walking through mountains before they can reach medical care, so this clinic will be life saving! We would like money towards building materials and medical supplies.
Give whatever you can! Every little helps!
