Story
Hello lovely people!
On May 29th this year I am attempting to run the Edinburgh Half Marathon. Having managed to run a 10k last year for the first time and survive, I decided that a half marathon cant be that much further and that after one race I was pretty much a pro. Turns out it is more than twice as far. However, I have decided it would be pretty cool if I could manage to raise some money for a worthy cause.
Age UK Bath & NE Somerset are an awesome charity local to my home turf (they’re independent from national Age UK and depend on donations from the community). They fight social isolation and loneliness with all kinds of schemes like their Befriending service, lunch clubs and Day Centres, and they have a ‘Home from Hospital’ team for people who don’t have family to collect them after a hospital stay and get them the things they need to readjust to independent living.
They cover all kinds of other things from social activities (walking football, singing, tai chi, cooking and IT clubs), giving benefits advice to clearing snow for people in the winter.
Most of us already have an insight into how heartbreaking old age can be, whether through caring for sick grandparents, helping elderly neighbours, or sitting next to an older person on the bus who wants to have a half-hour chat because they haven’t spoken to anyone for several days. One day we’ll be in their shoes too, so I want to help Age UK B&NES carry on supporting the people that need it.
If any of you would like to sponsor me then that would be amazing, and you can do so right here! Every little bit will help support the fantastic work that this charity does.
Thank you all very much!
