We, Arcadians in the Middle East (including EC Harris, Hyder Consulting, RTKL and Callison), want to do more for Nepal. The region has partnered with RedR (Register of Engineers for Disaster Relief), an international humanitarian NGO that supports aid organizations by developing skills and providing engineering and related expertise. We will support RedR’s emergency appeal in Nepal, which will help determine the most urgent shelter, water, medical, rebuilding and structural engineering needs in Nepal and support the local community through training on how to build long-term, stronger shelters.

RedR is responding to this disaster right now.  With members on the ground contributing to the immediate response, and plans for a longer-term response including vital humanitarian training, RedR needs more support.

Throughout June and July, we hope to raise a total of AED 30,000 across the Middle East business, which will go directly towards training and mentoring the local Nepalese communities on how to build long-term shelter. 

We hope to get contributions from 100% of our people. No contribution can be too small or large – anything can help Nepal.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake, which struck close to Kathmandu late in the morning of Saturday 25th April, has killed more than 7,000 people in the Nepalese capital, as well as the Gorkha and Lamjun districts. The death toll continues to rise and hundreds of thousands of people are now homeless.

Weeks later, a second quake struck in Nepal, smaller than the first, on Tuesday 12th May. The 7.4 magnitude earthquake, whose epicentre was between Kathmandu and Everest, had by mid-afternoon on Tuesday been confirmed to have killed at least 110 people, and injured more than 2,500 people.
