Story

My nan was tactfully trying to tell me I needed a hair cut and that ladies of a certain age shouldn't have long hair, so it got me thinking! One thing led to another and from a short hair cut I went to shaving the lot off! Those that know me, also know my hair! It's pretty wild. All my nicknames have been hair related from early schooldays of the Hair Bear bunch, through to current day 'wild woman of Borneo'!

While going through this radical change, I thought it prudent to raise as much money as possible for a worthy, local cause. Throughout my career as a nurse, I have often come into contact with victims of domestic abuse and as a parent of teens I feel it is my job to help them develop healthy and happy relationships.

There will be two charities benefiting - Little Princess Trust and Rising Sun Domestic Violence & Abuse Service.

Little Princess Trust will receive my hair to make wigs for boys and girls throughout the UK that have suffered hair loss due to cancer treatment, and I can hand over the baton of my hair to some poor unsuspecting child! Seriously though, they do a great job and I have deemed them a worthy charity to receive my prized mop!

Rising Sun is a charity based in Canterbury and apart from being there for all victims of domestic abuse, they do some great work for young teens preventing them from being in abusive relationships, learning to recognise the signs, mentoring those who are already vulnerable and at risk through to counselling for those who are suffering.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
