Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last year my daughter Georgia was born when my wife was only 24 weeks pregnant. Against all odds we now have her home after months of superb care at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesborough and back home in Barnsley Hospital.

Georgia underwent a heart duct closing operation at only three weeks old at Newcastle's Freemans Hospital. After six long weeks of being on a life support machine, Georgia managed to start to breath for herself with the support of a Sipap machine. After this she continued to become stronger with her breathing and moved onto Hi-Flo oxygen and then onto Low-Flo oxygen. All the time having superb individual care from professors, doctors, registrars, sisters and nurses.

Georgia received a level of blood transfusions as her bone marrow was not mature enough to re-produce fresh cells. Aged nine weeks but still seven weeks premature, Georgia was transferred by Barnsley based charity ambulance 'Embrace' back to Barnsley Hospital.

The staff in both hospitals have been superb and continue to be so. The James Cook has a state of the art neonatal unit where Barnsley is currently behind the times. As parents both myself and Lindsey would like premature babies and their parents to have a local state of the art neonatal unit in their home Town and not have to endure weeks of travelling across the country to a more advanced hospital once paternity pay has elapsed.

The Tiny Hearts appeal was launched in September 2014 and aims to raise £1million over two years to help support the development of a brand new Special Care Baby Unit in Barnsley. The new unit aims to provide an even better standard of care for all the special care babies and the most comfortable environment for all families and staff on the unit.

Me, my brother and a group of close friends are to conquer the 3 Peaks - Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Mount Snowden in August 2016.

Our team aim to raise £10,000 to contribute to the new state of the art facility in our very own Town.

Any donation would be greatly received to help fund a fantastic cause.
