The launch of Striving against Starvation, the annual BCT Food
Parcel Programme, coincides this year with World Hunger Day on
28th May 2016.
The drive will take place during June and July and the aim is to
provide aid to the poor, particularly widows and orphans in the most
destitute and deprived areas of Tanzania, Kenya, Afghanistan,
Pakistan, India, Iraq and Bangladesh, as well as supporting
refugees in Greece. In the UK, we are supporting food banks which
provide essential food to those living under the bread line.
The average cost for a typical food parcel (oil, rice, wheat, flour,
sugar, tea etc), is £25 and will feed a family of 4-5 people for a
whole month. You’ll find details of how to get involved overleaf.
This year we are also investing in water projects as an investment
into benefiting the lives of people on a daily and continuing basis.
Reliable access to clean water means thousands of lives could be
saved each day. Providing safe water to drink, wash and clean,
to grow crops and to water animals leads to healthier lives and a
sustainable route out of poverty. The average cost of a hand pump
that serves a small village is £120. The average cost of a water well
serving larger communities is between £500 and £1500 depending
on geographical location. You can also choose to part-donate to
any of these projects.
