Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Six years ago my husband and Claire's cousin, Ben, passed away at the age of 30 having accomplished so much in such a short life. Ben had run various marathons (including the Marathon des Sables and the Ultra Trail around Mont Blanc), completed an Ironman and played rugby for Fylde and Blackpool. After his passing, Ben's family paid tribute to his memory and love of life (and sport) by establishing the Ben Trend Foundation.
In the last six years, the Foundation has raised an amazing £94, 000 and has donated (to date) £75,000 to twenty-six projects, supporting individuals and clubs based in and around Blackpool and London. In the last year alone, the Foundation has supported:
- Max Eaves a British pole-vaulter hoping to qualify for Rio
- Isaac Towers an U20 T34 athlete
- Harry Walford a promising young ice-skater
- Hannah Parkinson a GB biathlete
The Foundation aims to provide accessible funding to individuals, teams and clubs. Applications really do vary- from organisations who perhaps just want to strengthen their offer by providing better equipment or subsidising and encouraging young people to participate; through to athletes who are on the verge/ already representing the country but perhaps don't always attract large corporate sponsors/ national financial backing.
The Three Peaks Challenge has been on my to-do list for a while and it seemed about time to do something about it. After a spontaneous text to Claire and a moment of madness on her part, here we are.....So in September (rain or shine and knowing our luck to date- more than likely- rain!) Claire and I will be sporting our walking boots and backpacks and 'getting involved'. It would be great if you could consider donating to the Foundation to spur us on (particularly up Scafell at night with the head torch.....)
People always say every penny counts but in this instance it really does. We've funded our own trip so every pound will go to the Foundation and directly to individuals/ clubs that will really benefit.
Thanks for your support and feel free to befriend us on Facebook if you want us to keep you posted of how we get on!
