Story
Thank you for visting Ben's Fundraising Page.
As most of you know Ben (with myself and both of our families by his side the entire time) had an almighty battle with bowel cancer. He was initially diagnosed in April 2013 after being MISDIAGNOSED by a few GPs even after he insisted that there was something wrong (yes, I am thinking about a campaign for this too). Once Ben was eventually diagnosed he had surgery and started chemotherapy treatment shortly afterwards.
The cancer was unfortunately too aggressive and reared its ugly head yet again towards the end of August just after my birthday. He went back into hospital for more surgery and was hoping to have more treatment after recovering. We never got that far and Ben sadly lost his battle with cancer on the 18th of November. It was not for want of trying though and he fought right up until the end...but most of you would expect no less from Ben.
I am of course heartbroken and probably will be forever but I am eternally grateful that we managed to get Ben moved to Meadow House Hospice for the last few days of his life. The staff there were amazing - they made him comfortable and looked after me and both of our families throughout the traumatic time. Ben also thanked me a few times for making it possible.
We are therefore sure that Ben would much prefer money to go towards the hospice rather than being spent on flowers for his funeral, hence this fundraising page.
The money will go towards enhancing patients' stay at the hospice by ensuring medical supplies as well as providing luxuries like a well kept garden, air conditioning, sky tv and wifi. More details of the hospice's wish list can be found on their website - http://www.meadowhousehospice.org.uk under 'Donations'.
Thank you on behalf of Ben, myself and our families.
