Story
On Saturday 30 June 2012 we (Guy and Matt) will take on the enormous challenge of walking 100 miles non stop from Rochester in Kent, to Beachy Head in East Sussex; to raise money for The Caron Keating Foundation via the newly formed breast cancer support group Breast Friends Forever.
The trek should take us about 40 hours (without sleep!) and includes just four scheduled 1 hour rest stops. We've done a few long distance walks in the past, but this is a whole new ball game…
We have set ourselves this challenge for one simple reason – to raise as much money as we possibly can to support people with breast cancer. This cause is very close to our hearts. Guy’s sister Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26, and just a month after she had successfully completed her year long treatment our good friend Wendy found out she had breast cancer too. The way that both of them dealt with the news head on and took their treatment in their stride is a true inspiration for everyone around them, and certainly spurred us on into coming up with this crazy 100 mile idea!
Breast Friends Forever is run by Wendy Owens and her good friend Fi Gordon (who had breast cancer at the same time as Wendy). To support us and raise more money they are holding a BFF Charity BBQ in Tonbridge on the Saturday afternoon – the half way point on our walk. We should be passing through at about 5pm so please come along and support us! For tickets (£10 adult, £5 under-16, food included!) please email info@breastfriendsforever.co.uk
We know this challenge is going to be really, really tough; but we’re pretty sure it’s nothing compared to the challenge of battling breast cancer, so please dig deep - we really appreciate it!
