Story
Two years ago, I led a team to Kenya to dig a fish pond alongside local women fish farmers. It was an amazing challenge and made me realise that women are far more capable than they think they are. It is hard to imagine what challenges women in African society must face. Giving them independence by developing businesses and an income for themselves, then enabling them to spend that money where they want (inevitably on their families) is why we have all come together for the #BigBeehiveBuild. I am really proud that even though many of us are competitors to some extent in the UK, we are all pulling together to leave a real lasting legacy. None of us is particularly well-known for our skills with a hammer, so building 90 beehives is going to be a huge challenge for us all. Especially as we only have three days! But I know we will keep going till we get it done. We’ll bring back many happy memories and perhaps the odd swollen thumb. I really hope that you will support us to help farmers lift their families out of poverty, for good. Thank you.
