In memory of Mike Hodgson
We Provide & fund community defibrillators to Improve Cardiac Arrest survival

Story

Mike Hodgson tragically died in August 2015 aged 57 after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest whilst out biking near his home in the Lake District.

Mike spent his week between his work in London as co-founder of the gourmet yoghurt company "The Collective UK" and family life in Keswick.

In his memory his family and The Collective have joined forces with the charity "The Community Heartbeat Trust" to raise money to bring retired red telephone boxes back to life by placing life-saving defibrillators in them.

Mike's wife, children and brother along with colleagues from The Collective are cycling from Mike's home in the Lakes to The Collective HQ in Acton, London; an epic 350 miles with 20,000 ft of climbing over 5 days from 2-6 September. Along the way we'll be taking pit stops to visit 3 of the phone boxes we're fitting with defibs at Grasmere, Settle and Bakewell.

We have set a goal to raise enough money for at least 10 defib phone boxes nationwide, through fundraising from the ride and a special plum 'n' stem ginger Limited Edition yoghurt that launches at the end of August; 5p per tub sold will be donated to the CHT. Mike was a big fan of plum and so this one is for him!

Our campaign pays tribute to an amazing man and will help those who suffer a sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospital. Using a defibrillator instead of CPR alone can significantly improve the chance of survival.

If you fancy donning your lycras and joining Sara, Rosie, James, Chris and Katie at any point along their epic ride for Mike or just want to give them a cheer to help them on their way, then email bikeformike@thecollectivedairy.com and we'll send you the details

Any support you can give in the way of donations would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you

The Collective, The CHT and all the Hodgsons

About the charity

The Community Heartbeat Trust helps communities undertake defibrillator projects taking into account the needs for the right equipment, the right support, the right adherence to liabilities and governance, community awareness and training programmes, and help with the fund raising and long term support for these projects. As the leading community defibrillator charity in the UK, we have become recognised by ambulance services, councils, community groups and sports governing bodies as the 'gold standard', having set many of the standards now being adopted by other organisations. We live, breath and are hugely passionate about community defibrillation in all its forms, and seek always to offer a holistic and objective advice to communities. We believe a defibrillator is for LIFE and not just for Christmas, and these medical devices should be available to save lives. But they are just that, a medical device, and must be treated with respect. A good project is not about just a defibrillator in the community, but one that forms part of a resilient process, addressing needs, and fully backed by Governance. www.communityheartbeat.org.uk
