Story
Anyone that knows me will understand just how much OCD has impacted my life. For years it has dictated what I can and can't do and has led me to live a life of fear and constant worry. I was bed bound for 9 months and that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the awful things I've had to go through because of this harrowing mental illness.
The World Health Organisation lists OCD amongst the top 10 most debilitating illnesses in the world and I know from first hand experience why this is the case. However, there is hope. OCD Action is a life line for people like myself and many others when we feel like we're at the end of our tether. They provide over the phone support, online communication, advocacy and information regarding treatment and seeking help and most of all, they give hope. All of the staff are incredible and are so kind, generous and gracious with their time and love and genuine compassion.
However, although I'm doing this to raise money for OCD Action, it is also an enormous personal challenge for me. The thought of doing this a few months ago would've caused me to laugh and say no way. But I'm fed up of letting OCD win and I want to take my life back. What better way to challenge myself than crawl around in muddy water and climb and run and deal with obstacles that would all trigger me! Some people will be perplexed and won't understand how I can think of doing this but am unable to hold down a job. This is fine, because OCD is such a complex illness that needs a lot more research and awareness and time dedicated to it.
It is my goal to raise as much as I can for OCD Action but to also raise awareness of this mental health condition and if I can be so lucky, inspire someone to challenge their OCD and give them hope that things can get better.
I am doing this for anyone who has been directly or indirectly impacted by OCD because you're not alone, and together, there is nothing we cannot achieve!
