My Story:
This Ramadan (2015) has been a particularly emotional one for me with the profound realisation of just how comfortable a life I have been blessed with compared to the mass suffering that exists in the world today. No doubt there are so many people in need but I had no idea that this particular group of Eritrean refugees existed nor did I have any idea of their plight. I heard stories and saw images that literally haunted me as I was blessed with an abundance of food and an unlimited supply of cool, clean, pure sanitised water! What a blessing subhanAllah if only we all truly knew.
These refugees have been set up in camps that are so remote and destitute and hours away from any signs of infrastructure or civil order. They regularly go on 2 Hour journeys to collect what could be disease-ridden dirty water which they have to try and filter and sanitise themselves if at all able. The account of a mother doing this secretly with her hijab just so that her family would accept the water stays with me up until now. The alternative as reported by one lady seemed to be to wait three days in a queue just to collect water from a UN run well!
These refugees have now been abandoned - a crisis which began when I was a mere tot receives no media attention at all - and from what I'm aware the UN are no longer assisting them with any support or aid.
They are literally at our mercy.
Now with a new generation of people being born into isolated desolate refugee camps cut off from the most basic of needs and infrastructure I feel as though I have to do something to help them which is why I have created this page.
The need was so simply put it seems so achievable. £45000 will enable a mega-well to be built and crucially MAINTAINED to provide the 15,000 people in this camp access to clean pure water FOR LIFE! Due to the scarcity of water, The well has to be drilled 400ft below the surface of the earth (as opposed to the usual 60ft!)
That breaks down to just £3 to provide one person clean pure water for life! How beautifully simple is that. It's within each and everyone of our grasp to be able to do that. And so I humbly ask you, please give just £3. Or more if you can. But more than that, please ask everyone you know to do the same. My target is only for 1/10th of this mega-well but I would love to help raise more and I truly believe we can.
This water gives these people a real chance in life. Rather than travelling hours to find only a source of water we wouldn't dream of stepping in let alone drink, we can give them the ability to drink, cook, wash, bathe, purify themselves with wudhu, provide for their animals and irrigate their lands! We are giving them a chance to settle and finally create home in a land they were thrown into with nothing. The children will have a chance to grow and learn life skills that without water is simply impossible!

Thank you so much for any and every contribution you're able to make. We have been given so much encouragement in our beautiful deen to be charitable, finding comfort in the knowledge that it doesn't decrease us from our wealth as well as that it extinguishes our sins like water extinguishes fire. Alhumdulillah we can further satisfy our souls with the knowledge that the best charity is giving water to drink.(Ahmad)
With peace and love
