Story
In 2006 our mother and friend, Cecile Becks-Phelps, was sadly taken from us too early. As she had always dreamed of running a marathon, the 10th Anniversary of her passing seemed the perfect opportunity for us to make that dream a reality.
Cecile was passionate about supporting and enabling women to give birth with as little medical intervention as possible. She also cared that they and their partners had the best possible experience. NHS Dumfries and Galloway Maternity Services currently has the highest level of natural birth rate in Scotland and we know that, had Cecile still been with us, she would have been passionately involved in the service developments that have resulted in this.
In memory of Cecile, we; her children, family, and friends; will be running the Amsterdam Marathon and half marathon in October 2016 to help raise funds for NHS Dumfries and Galloway to help them continue this excellent work by buying birthing equipment or developing other resources, such as information for women that will enable them to make informed choices about their birthing options.
We aimed for a target of £3,000, we are now past £4,000! This is huge, and the difference this will make is unimaginable, this makes a huge contribution in Cecile's name.
Thank you so much for taking the time to come and visit our page, and please get in touch if you have any questions. I will be regularly updating the photos on our facebook page so that we can all smile and remember Cecile for being the wonderful and strong women that she was. As well as seeing how we get on over the coming months and the event itself!
