Story

My name is Brett Hanley and on Sunday 24th June I am going to cycle approximately 400 miles over 6 days with 13 other colleagues.  We are cycling from Southampton to Newcastle.

I have chosen "The Swindon Down's Syndrome Group" as my charity because my friends Son has Down's Syndrome so it’s very close to me but I also want to contribute to their good work.

The main area of need for people with Down’s syndrome is in the area of communication. All children/people with Down’s syndrome will have some level of learning disability and some difficulty with speech and language.  So the money that I raise will be going towards their very worthwhile project "Speech and Language Therapy".  The Group fundraises £17,129.50 per year to give their children weekly speech and language therapy instead of one hour per term.

About the charity

A £10 donation would pay for a weeks Speech and Language Therapy for 1 child with Down's Syndrome. One of the greatest barriers for children with Down's Syndrome in assessing their local community is a difficulty with Speech and Language.
