Living on £5 a day for Student Action for Refugees, 25 February 2017

Story

A single adult asylum seeker in the UK on ‘Section 94’ support currently receives £5.23 a day to live off.
A refused asylum seeker on ‘Section 4’ support gets the equivalent of just £5.05 a day. This is charged on a prepaid card which be can only be used at the following shops: ASDA, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Boots, Peacocks and Coop.

This year as part of Action Week from 20th-26th February 2012, Bristol Student Action for Refugees (STAR) and students across Bristol are living on the daily allowance given to asylum seekers, for all food, drink, transport, toiletries, clothes and extras, to prove just how impossible this can be. While raising money for the charity STAR, which provides support and helps thousands of asylum seekers and refugees rebuild their lives in the UK through English classes, kids clubs, drop-ins and much more.

We are very grateful for any donations.
