Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
Luke started raising money in 2009 following his diagnosis of Acute Myloid Leukaemia in March 2008. Since that time, Luke relapsed twice, once in July 2012 for which he had a successful stem cell transplant, and once again in June 2015. Unfortunately, Luke's most recent round of treatment was unsuccessful and he sadly passed away on 21 October 2015. You can read more about Luke's journey from 2008 - 2012 here http://lukesleukaemiasideline.blogspot.co.uk
In the last 7 years of his life Luke took part in various activities to raise funds, and encouraged others to do so too. His legacy lives on and he continues to inspire others to raise much needed funds for this fantastic charity to ensure that others don't have to suffer in future years.
Our planned event is hosting a charity cricket match at Bridgwater Cricket Club in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, now Bloodwise, and yourselves on the 10th September 2016. The event will begin at 12pm and continue into the evening. In addition to the cricket match we will be having a BBQ, Bar, Hog Roast, Raffle, Auction, a band and more stalls throughout the day.
Last year we held the event (https://www.facebook.com/events/1654997531396107/?ti=icl) for the first time and raised £36,000 for Bloodwise, Anthony Nolan and Ward 9 at Musgrove Park Hospital. We were overwhelmed by the support we received on the day, but also from people providing auction and raffle prizes. The inspiration for the event is our friend Luke Buckingham; Luke sadly passed away in October 2015, but I am so proud to say that he was able to attend last year’s event and that it gave him the strength to defy the odds and spend some invaluable time at home with his beloved wife, family and friends. If we had raised no money at all, this would have been enough. Everyone close to Luke is devastated by the loss, but it has furthered our resolve to make this a regular event as we could never have envisioned raising such an incredible amount of money.
