Story
After reading about this opportunity to volunteer with ActionAid and help build a much-needed classroom for a village primary school in Kampot province, South Cambodia, we were inspired to go out there and give something back.
We are both plumbers from Radcliffe on Trent. With 5 children between us, who are lucky enough to get a good education, we are keen to go out there and make a life changing difference for the children and community of Kampot province.
The poor state of the current school is causing children to miss classes and even drop out. In Cambodia where poor education and literacy levels remain a huge barrier, especially for women and girls, most children only complete a few years of education, many have to travel long distances, on foot or bicycle to reach school. This project will help give children the education they need.
ActionAid requires us to raise £3000 each to help fund the classroom building project as well as cover the costs for flights, accommodation, meals and transport in Cambodia. We will be kick starting the fundraising with a £1400 personal contribution. Any shortfall will be made up by ourselves in order to guarantee us getting there.
This plea is aiming to raise as much money as possible to help cover these basic costs in order for us to go out there and be effective. Any excess monies raised will go directly to ActionAid to help fund their work helping the poorest women and children around the world.
We also pledge to keep everyone posted on the project with regular updates and photos
