Hello and welcome to our Just Giving page...

Our Dad passed away last year, at the age of 62, after a 9 month fight with cancer. Whilst visiting family in England to welcome his soon to be born Granddaughter, he didn't feel well and was taken to hospital. After numerous scans and tests, followed by surgery, we got the unexpected and devastating news that he had a terminal brain tumour called a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM).

GBM is the most common and most deadly type of brain tumour, killing around 5000 people each year in the UK (that’s 5 times more than all the other 130 types of brain tumour put together!). Average life expectancy with a GBM, from diagnosis, is a mere 14 months.

There is no cure.

Seeing how it affected our Dad will be with us forever, and we want to do all we can to raise awareness and money to fight it.

In addition to our Dad, at a similar time, a local Wokingham boy (Ollie) also had a GBM, and at the age of 5, 12 weeks after diagnosis, he passed away. Seeing our Dad was tough, but realising how it can affect children was even worse.

Ollie’s family created a foundation to raise money to support leading research into GBM’s and help raise awareness. Having witnessed our Dad, knowing some of Ollie's family and Scott being a parent of a boy of similar age, it became an obvious choice as the charity our family wanted to support.

Now, it has been a while since we ran a marathon, so we looked for other fund raising ideas, and will be participating in the Monte Carlo or Bust car rally in June with a couple of friends. Our brother Gordon was going to join in, but he is now expecting the arrival of his second child at the same time, so best he stays in the UK! The aim of the “banger” rally is to buy a car for under £300 and drive it from Scott's house in Berkshire, to Monte Carlo in the South of France. The indirect route covers France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Luxemburg and Italy and covers over 1600km. The car will be decorated and it is all done in fancy dress, whilst visiting check points and completing challenges along the way.

The aim is to raise some money, and coverage, which will benefit the Ollie Young Foundation. Although not until June, we want to start raising money and awareness asap, to maximise its success. You obviously don’t need to donate, but anything you can will be greatly appreciated and will go to an amazing charity. We will update this page, and a facebook page as we go so you can keep updated as

Cheers
