Story
Having previously worked with homeless people in Derby for a number of years, I have seen the effects of the government's austerity measures on some of the most vulnerable in society. Derby has a large, and growing, number of homeless people, yet services have had their funding drastically cut and the number of bed-spaces available has fallen. As a result, many people face a winter on the freezing streets.
Last winter 217 different people stayed in Derby Churches Night Shelter which is run in partnership with 7 different church venues in or near the city centre from 1st December to 31st March. Volunteers provide a hot meal and warm welcome for up to 35 guest per night and breakfast in the morning. This project meant that no homeless person died on the streets last winter.
I would like to raise £1000 to help this project and would appreciate your support.
