Story
Bladder cancer is the 5th most common cancer in the western world but receives less than 1% of site specific research funds. This lack of research means that there has been no new treatments for over 30 years. The consequences of this is that it is the most costly cancer for the NHS to treat on a per patient basis. The reason? The current treatments are not very good, resulting in bladder cancer being the cancer with the highest recurrence rate of any cancer. This doesn't only mean high costs, it means that bladder cancer patients live with the daily fear of relapse.
Bladder cancer patients have to endure some of the most invasive treatments with agonising side effects and many potential long term and rest of life physical and emotional life changing problems.
The Fight Bladder Cancer Research Fund will be managed by patients and carers themselves with the support of a panel of the top most passionate medical and research professionals in the field of bladder cancer.
