Story
The Nepal authorities have asked Freedom Matters and its local NGO partner, Right4Children, to focus our post-earthquake reconstruction work on Marpak Village Development Committee (VDC) area. This lies in Dhading District, one of the worst-affected by the April and May earthquakes. In Marpak 90% of homes were destroyed or severely damaged.
The reconstruction work starts in September and we will be sending an immediate £100,000 for the first phase of rebuilding ten schools, health posts and homes. We will help the people also by providing cash for work, subsidised materials and by training 200 people in skills such as joinery and masonry appropriate for rebuilding and that they can ultimately also use in other areas. After that we aim to send a further £75,000 to complete our commitment to over 1,100 families, rebuilding their community so that it is more resilient and earthquake-resistant than before. It's for this second tranche of funds that we need your help. Please give generously!
