Story
On 13th May 2015, Kim was sadly diagnosed with cancer at the age of just 13. She had been experiencing pains in her calf and was eventually referred to Ipswich hospital to have a scan for a possible torn muscle. However, it turned out not to be a torn muscle but in fact a tumour. The official diagnosis was confirmed as Ewing Sarcoma. An extremely rare form of bone cancer in children (usually 10-20 years old), without warning as they can often have no symptoms prior to diagnosis.
Unfortunately with Kim the cancer had spread into the surrounding soft tissues and vessels which resulted in her having to have her leg amputated.
Most importantly for Kim is that she needs a new leg. We have learnt that our original target of £20,000 was underestimated. The money raised so far will go towards the cost of her lifelike silicon leg & any additional funding will go towards costs of home adaptations and a prosthetic blade runner to enable her to achieve her dream of becoming a Paralympian!
