Story

Each day, almost 600 children are infected with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. Without treatment, approximately 50% of these children will die before age two. The transmission of HIV from a mother to her baby is almost entirely preventable. The babies that have been born HIV negative through the 1.2 million plus women mothers2mothers has reached is proof of this.

2016 sees the 15th anniversary of mothers2mothers (m2m) and to mark this important milestone and to celebrate the 1.2 million women reached, mothers2mothers Malawi will be the host m2m country for our 2016 Cycle to Zero Challenge.

Reaching our goal of eliminating paediatric HIV and to make zero transmission a reality is a team effort and Cycle to Zero is just this. The valuable funds raised by the 2016 Cycle to Zero Team can help make our dream a reality; the dream of a world where no mother dies of AIDS and no baby is born with HIV.

mothers2mothers train, employ, & empower Mentor Mothers, who are mothers living with HIV, to work alongside doctors & nurses in understaffed health centres as members of the healthcare team. No baby should be born with HIV and no mother should die of HIV. Together we can eliminate paediatric HIV.
