Story
In Kikobero village, Uganda, young women do not have easy access to sanitary products. In Patchwork Kids' schools, girls aged 13 and above miss around five days of school every month. This is almost 25% of their education. The problem is that they have to stay away from school during their period. Instead, they have to hide or sit beside the stream in the forests where there are no people around because they are embarrassed. Alarmingly, this also leads girls to want to marry young so that they can become pregnant, thinking that this will solve this problem.
What do we propose to do about it?
We want to provide these young women with sanitary products, soap and underwear to the young women as well as training and an opportunity for the girls to discuss female issues, so that they can stay in school for 5 more days each month.
