Story
At West Lothian RDA our 45 volunteers and 7 horses provide weekly riding and stable management lessons for 60 adults and children of all ages with various disabilities from April to October each year.
Our charity is purely self-funding and without the dedication of our volunteers together with donations and fundraising activities we could not continue to provide this wonderful opportunity.
Throughout the winter our horses are looked after by a team of volunteers who give up their time every day and week in all weathers.
The simple pleasure of working with horses is the cornerstone of all RDA’s activities. From that starting point everything else follows be that freedom of movement, gaining confidence, building relationships, receiving life-enhancing physiotherapy or achieving individual goals.
Riding offers an element of excitement and risk often denied to people with disabilities. It can be a means to relax or an opportunity to compete.
“It’s what you can do that counts”
