Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. If you're here that means I've already grabbed your attention with the crazy intention I have to shave my head. So while I've got you, let me tell you a little bit more about why.
On a fundamental level, I try to do something charitable every couple of years. I think it's important that we all play our part. When life sometimes gets the better of you and you need the help and support of a charity, the ongoing work that they do becomes ever more significant and the role that the public plays in that is invaluable.
I have set the bar high with my fundraising hopes and vowed to shave my head for Breast Cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel! on Valentine’s Day 2014. In the lead up to the event I will be urging the public to love their boobs and donate to the charity in an attempt to reach a target of £10,000.
Back in 2005 my step father was diagnosed with bowel cancer and during his chemo I cut off my ponytail and raised an astonishing £3500. This time, I want to do more.
It's as much about awareness as it is about fundraising and the quirkiness of this event will grab attention as well as donations. As an ambassador for Curvy Kate I'm working with both them and the charity to bring the message to as many people as possible.
What you should know...
1. I have great hair, it's long, thick, in great condition and my hair dresser WILL cry when she shaves my head. I'm also going to donate the hair to a company that makes wigs for kids who are going through cancer.
2. I'm nothing if not persistant and I will do my darndest to raise the money one way or another over the next few months.
3. I have the support of both CoppeFeel! and Curvy Kate who are working together on various initiatives to raise awareness and encourage the early detection of breast cancer. When my head is shaved I will be wearing a specially designed underwear set to launch next year that holds the charities logo and will encourage women to check themselves every time they put on their underwear.
4. Breast cancer is still a killer and affects over 50,000 people every year, men and women.
5. We appreciate every single donation, big and small.
6. I will also cry when my head is shaved.
