Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. I am running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 07 October 2012 to help raise funds for a charity called Wipe Away Those Tears. 

 

Wipe Away Those Tears is my chosen charity as it is a local Essex Charity that helps local Essex children.  They have very kindly offered to help a little four year old boy called George, who is my son's dear friend. George has a sensory processing disorder (SPD) which is a complex neurological disorder.  Help is not available on the NHS as the budget has been cut.  Treatment is only available privately.  

 

HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

WHY EARLY TREATMENT IS IMPORTANT FOR KIDS WITH SPD:

 

There is a golden window of opportunity with children between the ages of four and seven when the immature brains of younger children are more “plastic” which enables the brain to modify or “re-wire” itself.

 

SPD - SENSORY PROCESSING DISORDER – WHAT IS IT?

 

Sensory processing is a term that refers to the way the nervous system receives sensory messages and turns them into responses.  Most of us are born with the ability to receive sensory messages and organise them effortlessly.  Children who suffer from a sensory processing disorder experience sensory sensations differently because they cannot process the information the way other children do, and things which other kids can do effortlessly are a daily struggle.
