Why are we doing this?
Climate change is an issue which affects us all. However it has a disproportionate effect on the world’s poor. Africa is experiencing drought, floods and famine, which makes daily life even harder for already impoverished people.
Climate Stewards passionately cares about reducing this suffering. That is why we plant trees in Africa. We currently have tree planting programmes in Ghana and are planning to launch a project planting mangrove trees in Kenya.
Planting trees helps climate change because they capture the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide as they grow. Mangroves are especially suited for carbon capture because they channel sequestered carbon into the ocean, which acts as a carbon sink. Trees have a transforming quality which improves their surrounding environments. Mangrove planting supports biodiversity, especially threatened and endangered Species. One example of how this is occurs is that Mangroves serve as valuable nursery areas for fish and invertebrates.
All tree planting by Climate Stewards directly transforms the lives of locals, who are involved in planting and managing the scheme from start to finish. This empowers them to have lifelong skills and earn a living to look after their family.
This is a fun and innovative way of raising money for a really worthy cause
We will be making a video to show the ups and downs of our adventure!
We hope that you will get involved with our journey, either by donating, praying or spreading the word
