As you know Christian Missions Charitable Trust and the city of Chennai, India has a special place in my heart after my visit there in 2011. Unfortunately the city has had really bad flooding in the past weeks, receiving a highest rainfall of about 50.2cm, washing away the slums and low lying residential areas affecting its normal life.

As the people are forced to leave their houses leaving all the provisions under stagnant water, a foul smell is emanating causing health hazards. The death toll has reached 169 in the state of Tamilnadu and 44 in Chennai city and of these children and aged people are the victims. 

The management of CMCT has therefore decided to involve in the process of providing immediate relief measures to a few severely affected localities:
1. Soup kitchen slums
2. Sponsor children’s residences
3. Leprosy colonies
4. Families of HIV/ AIDS
5. People of Chinnakuppam Tsunami village
6. Padappai and Chinnakuppam agricultural farms
7. Residences of few CMCT staffs

The supply of relief materials will consist of bedding materials, provisions, garments, house hold utensils, school supplies, granting financial assistance to service and repair the gadgets and extending assistance to restore back to the residences. The required materials will be procured from the whole sale dealers and distributed to the affected families/ individuals. A team of social workers will be given responsibility of distribution and reporting.
