Story

IN HEALTH THERE IS FREEDOM. HEALTH IS THE FIRST OF ALL LIBERTIES.” –HENRI-FREDERIC AMIEL

Over the course of the next five years, Tilinanu and the Love Support Unite Foundation will develop, plan and implement the construction and operation of a multi-dimensional, forward-thinking healthcare facility in Area 49 of Lilongwe, Malawi.

In the next two years, it is our aim to establish a primary care clinic to provide immediate relief and essential diagnosis and treatment to a rapidly developing area of the capital.

However, this is not the full reach of our ambitions. By the close of 2020, it is our intention to establish The Love Support Unite Maternal and Child Health Centre.

A COST-EFFECTIVE, INNOVATIVE MODEL OF HEALTHCARE REFORM IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD.

The next Two Years:

In the upcoming two years, it is our intention to build a primary health facility with a core focus upon providing essential healthcare to the surrounding district, Area 49 of Lilongwe, Malawi.

The centre’s primary focus will therefore be upon the diagnosis and treatment of preventable and curable illnesses.

SINCE 2013, LOVE SUPPORT UNITE HAS VACCINATED OVER 70,000 INDIVIDUALS, HELD POP-UP CLINICS ACROSS LILONGWE, PROVIDED TEACHERS FOR OVER 4000 STUDENTS AND ESTABLISHED 2 FOSTER CARE HOMES. WE ARE ALSO AT A CRUCIAL POINT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF LSU’S FLAGSHIP PROJECT - THE FIRST ENTIRELY SELF-SUSTAINABLE SCHOOL IN MALAWI , MKUNKHU SCHOOL.

In keeping with this central ethos our development plan the clinic will provide:

  •   Routine healthcare for all members of the community

  •   Provision of pharmaceuticals for common and treatable illnesses (malaria, TB, syphilis, etc)

  •   Nutrition education and support

Outreach services and pop-up clinics via our medical vehicle (1 of only 2 currently servicing the Lilongwe region)

A herbal garden and holistic remedies

ACCORDING TO THE LANCET, UP TO 67% OF SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAS NEW-BORN DEATHS COULD BE PREVENTED WITH A BETTER COVERAGE OF CARE.

Looking Towards the Future

By the close of 2017 it is our intention to have a firm foundation upon which we can move forward with our long-term vision of establishing The Love Support Unite Maternal and Child Health Centre.

In a country where the likelihood of dying during pregnancy is 1 in 36 (compared to 1 in 4600 in the UK) our facility will aim to address issues surrounding maternal and child health through carefully developed antenatal/postnatal care facilities, relevant outreach clinics, highly trained medical professionals and excellent facilities.

Business Model: For the clinic to both function and sustain itself as an independent body, it is of vital importance that it is modelled in such a way as to ensure complete and comprehensive self-sufficiency. Based on a tried and tested model, we are proposing a partial private/public business model the prospective revenue generated from the private service users (20% of user population) thereby providing funding to allow free facilities for public users (80% of user population).

Total Cost of Project: £150,000
To move forward at this crucial stage of our development we are requesting a donation of £20,000.
The first phase of our development will focus upon the initial construction process, acquirement of pharmaceuticals and provision of medical and administrative staff.

A full financial break-down is available upon request.

Our Commitment
Longevity
We are completely committed to the enduring legacy of this project. Working alongside UK based and Malawian medical professionals, our team will undertake extensive research and ensure effective service delivery. The Love Support Unite team have been working on the ground in Malawi for over six years. We have a strong track record of delivering on our promises and creating genuinely self-sustainable enterprises. Monitoring and Evaluation
Working alongside our team of Malawian project managers, the LSU team is committed to providing ongoing supervision and evaluation of the medical project in conjunction with medical volunteers/staff. In recognition of their trust and support, the project’s sponsors will all receive a comprehensive, in-depth annual report outlining the progression of the project.
