Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 29th of September 2012 at the age of 31, I was diagnosed with advanced colorectal cancer. As you can imagine and unfortunately many have experienced, this came as a total shock to me.

Prior to this I was very active both at work, as a Paramedic for West Midlands  Ambulance Service and at home with a young family, my wife Hayley and my two sons Dylan (5) and 'Big' George (18 months).

When I say active, I went to the gym 4 - 5 days a week and ran at least 1 - 2 days a week, my diet was good and I thought I was in peak health.  But as many stories before mine have shown, cancer is not picky and sometimes has no logic.

Away from the self centred part of the story why should you donate?

I have had two major operations at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, a liver resection on the 19th December 2012 and a bowel resection on the 13th March 2013, I have also had my ileostomy reversed in November 2013.  I have seen and experienced first hand what this hospital achieves on a daily basis and can not speak highly enough of the care and treatment I received.  The amazing and advanced work that the staff perform at this hospital is incredible and all under the banner of the NHS, something I believe in today's society goes too much unrecognised and unrewarded, but we won't go too much further on that subject!

With this in mind I wish to start raising money for their cancer appeal so that further advances in treatment can be achieved.  They wish to raise money to buy equipment  such as Cyperknife and to fund leading drug regimes which will help fight this horrible disease and improve patient treatment.

Personally I am starting to raise money for this worthy charity to give myself goals to strive for and achieve.  I am still a long way from completing treatment for the cancer but have continued to keep myself active, body permitting.  Keeping active and positive I have found has aided my recovery and helped me get through radiotherapy, chemotherapy and three surgeries.

I wish to do further events body permitting and hopefully make my two boys and family proud of me.
