Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running in the Glasgow Men's 10K on 19th June to raise money for the British Skin Foundation and to raise awareness of Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD), which is a rare cancer related illness. I was diagnosed in early 2015 and my case was described as "one in a million" by my consultant as she had only ever met one other individual with Extramammary Paget's disease during her 15 year career in Dermatology. Due to the rarity of the disease, I have struggled to find definitive information on the internet to help me fully understand the diagnosis, treatment methods and outcomes.
After a personal mission to get fit which started around four years ago, I have lost over four stone with the initial aim of participating in the Glasgow Men’s 10k. Despite still recovering from my third surgery to treat the Extramammary Paget's Disease, which has impacted on my training schedule, I am determined to do the 2016 Glasgow 10k even if I need to walk parts of it!
Please donate what you can to such a worthwhile cause, the British Skin Foundation. It is important to raise funds into the research of rare diseases such as Extramammary Paget's disease to improve understanding of the disease and how it can be treated. The aim is also to improve communications routes and material for rare cancer related illnesses so that people can come to terms with the diagnosis and do not feel isolated.
