Jack Dickson, Housemaster of Shaftesbury House and art teacher at Bryanston, has offered to cut his distinctive, trademark dreadlocks if the school can raise £23,000 or more in promises by Friday 20 November towards rebuilding a remote area of earthquake-stricken Nepal.

Why £23,000? Not only will this sum ($36,000) rebuild and equip an earthquake-resistant primary school in Marpak VDC, twenty-three is also the number of years Mr Dickson has been growing his hair.

Marpak VDC is a remote area near the epicentre of last year’s devastating earthquake which the school’s charities, Freedom Matters and Right4Children, have been tasked with rebuilding. The charities have nine primary schools and two secondary schools to rebuild, together with  a health post and 1,100 houses. The area, just beneath Ganesh Himal, is  five hours from any real civilisation and the devastation was complete.
