You may notice that our page has gone up by £500 - this is due to an incredibly generous donation from Mrs Anne Redston, which she gave straight to Butterfly Conservation towards our cause :) wow!!!! :)

Was a really long and tough day today, got serious shin pain and having to limp through it. HOWEVER - I have the best mum in the world who joined us at a campsite last night, provided dinner, brekkie and lunch, ferried our bags to today's destination and has just put us up in a guest house for the night! Amazing Ma! Was lovely to see you :) thanks also to Sue for the fab company and for putting up with walking miles and miles in the rain with us :) x

Just leaving Weston-super-Mare! Heading for Bristol :)

Just hit Bridgewater and took our shoes off. Yuck! Feels weird to be in a town, to be honest I can't wait to get out again. The shops have security alarms that buzz when you walk in, no-one says hello, and no nature of any kind except pigeons...

We made it to St Blazey yesterday, that's about 58 miles walked so far :) proud of ourselves! But there's a long way to go yet...!

RIGHT!!!!
After a short delay due to an ill-timed injury, Sami's ankle is now heaps better and we're desperate to hit the road!
So for anyone who would like to see us off on our Epic Honeymoon Walk for Butterfly Conservation, we will be at the Land's End signpost at 10am tomorrow, the 12th of May. We'd love for people to see us off and cheer us on our way :)

.........................................................................................................

Only 8 days to go and we'll be married!! 2 days after that, we'll be starting the long walk north... Who's going to be at Land's End on the 7th of May to see us off? There will be confetti :)

What an amazing total, and we haven't even taken one step yet! The walk is getting really close, and we're both getting very excited... :)

Thanks to everyone who have helped us to raise such a fantastic amount already! Keep it coming! :)

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

OK folks, so here's the deal.

Sami and Seth are getting married in May this year (and about time too, as Sami will tell anybody that'll listen!) In celebration of becoming Mr and Mrs Gibson we're undertaking a bit of a joint childhood ambition...walking from Land's End in Cornwall all the way to John O' Groats way up at the top of Scotland. Adventures, quiet backwaters, tranquil pathways, country pubs and majestic mountain ranges beckon!

Our walk will encompass many different terrains, from clifftop paths and lowland woodlands through to mountain passes and the ancient Caledonian forest. We shall endure the fearsome Scottish Midge, inclement weather, sleeping in a tent for over two months....and each other! We are carrying our belongings on our backs, camping and roughing it wherever we can. Land's End to John O'Groats completely unsupported...bring it on!!!

In an attempt to add something other than blisters and memories to our epic walk, we shall be raising as much money as possible for Butterfly Conservation, Britains ONLY charity dedicated to protecting our unique butterfly and moth populations and the habitats they rely upon. In 2010 we attempted to see all of Britain's butterfly species, being defeated only by the elusive Mountain Ringlet, denizen of high, barren mountain-tops and the Clouded Yellow, a migrant species which occurs here in varying numbers each year. We bagged all of the other 56 though, which is more than many UK butterfly enthusiasts see in a lifetime!

During our 2010 ButterflyBlitz attempt we were repeatedly dismayed by the fragility of many of the sites we visited - some really are no larger than a football pitch and many are under a constant threat of 'development'. At the same time, we were consistently amazed at the sheer wealth of butterfly and other insect life we found on many of the nature reserves we visited, some owned or managed by Butterfly Conservation. Without the continuing support of Butterfly Conservation, many fragile sites and the species communities they support will, quite simply, disappear.

In the last decade almost three quarters of our butterfly species have suffered population declines. So what, you ask? Are butterflies really that important? Well, yes, we believe so! Our butterflies are an obvious and important part of our ecosystem, which is to say that if butterfly numbers are healthy, so is our countryside. And yet three quarters are in decline. Something urgently needs to be done. We are doing our little bit, this is now your opportunity to help make a difference too.
