Story
Ataxia is the name given to a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination, and speech. There are many different types of ataxia that can affect people in different ways.
Some forms of ataxia are treatable, but in most cases there is still no cure. It's important to remember that ataxia is a symptom and may occur as a result of many different underlying conditions. Ataxia UK are funding a wide range of research projects to try to find treatments that can help ataxia, and ultimately find a cure.
On the 31st December 2014, our beautiful mum and wife, lost her fight to this awful condition. The last several years have been the hardest and will remain the hardest years throughout the rest of our lives. Our brave and heroic dad cared for our mum, his wife of 30 years, 24/7 for the last few years without anything but a smile and a cup of strong coffee by his side. We will never be able to thank him enough for what he did and will forever be in debt to him for his amazing actions.
No family should have to go through what we have been through, witnessing such severe deterioration of a loved one, with no way of being able to ease their suffering, only left to watch it get worse.
Our aim is to raise awareness of this rare condition, and to help fund much needed research in the hope that someday soon they will find a cure for Ataxia, which brought such destruction to our family.
Mum, we hope you are now at peace, sleeping beautifully. We are so very sorry your life ended how it did. You will forever be in our hearts and thoughts and we can promise you that not a day will go by where we won't think about you or miss you dearly. We love you xx
