Story
Hello Family and Friends,
We are a group of 8 Hackney families (17 children and 15 grown-ups) planning to (all!) cycle approximately 40 miles up and down the River Lea on 23/24 July to raise money for children who live on the streets in Burundi.
We range from the age of 5 months to 13 years and then the grown-ups (who are really old!) are coming with us to carry all our bags and snacks!
Why do we want to do this? There are lots of children in Burundi in Africa who are the same age as us who
don't have a Mum and Dad to look after them, or a home to live in or a place to feel safe and hang out together. They have to live on the street and we don't think that this is a very good thing and we want to help them. So, we
want to raise some money to make sure that they have the same opportunities that we have.
To do this we are supporting a charity called Street Action that works with a project called New Generation in Burundi. They make sure that these children don't have to
live on the streets. They give them food, a place to sleep and a place to play and go to school and sometimes they are able to find their families. We think that this is a really good thing so we want to help them by riding our bikes a very long way and asking you to sponsor us with some money so that we can support the work of Street Action - the money we raise this year will go towards building a community centre for the kids.
Please give us as much as you can so that children like us in Burundi don't have to live on the streets anymore.
Thank you.
