Story
I have never been anywhere near the altitude of 5,891m and have limited mountaineering experience. I have chosen the most difficult route to set the bar as high as possible.
I set myself this goal as I experienced during my mentoring year with Chance UK, how powerful solution focused work can be, especially the setting of goals.
I have been mentoring an 8-year old child, M, with Chance UK for just under a year. We meet once a week to work on M's goals which focused on 'becoming more brave' and independent. Together we set milestones on the way for him to achieve his goals such as exploring his local area in London as well as learning different sports, social skills and healthy eating - in M's world these are far more challenging goals than climbing Kilimanjaro is for me. He has been brave and together we have accomplished many of the goals we set.
As my role as mentor to M is now coming to an end, I thought it was time to set myself a goal on his behalf. We will have our last session the day before I set off for Tanzania.
I have chosen to climb Kilimanjaro for Chance UK and I am fundraising for them to be able to support more children to look forward to a brighter future. Any amount that you are able to give, no matter how large or small, will be highly appreciated by me but more importantly by children like M and their families.
